What is Evoéh?

Evoéh is Ariana and Jesús. We sing Mediterranean songs, especially Sephardic, and compose music with Spanish flavor.

This project aims to boost human growth, on a personal and social level, through the emotion. We love to feel cultural connections, and we look for everything that unites us, to dissolve borders and time notion.

We use several languages, as Spanish, Ladino, Catalan, Galician, Occitan, Arabic, etc.

The word Evoéh was used as a sing of joy and as a ritualistic sound to invoke superior forces in ancient mysteries.

We also work with a lot of artists, with the direction and coordination of Ariana Barrabés (voice and Iberian and Middle Eastern percussion) and Jesús Olivares (guitar, lute, harp, baglama and oud).

Due to the curiosity that these instruments arouse and our study of Sephardic oral tradition and musical composition, we also carry out intense pedagogical work. In fact, we teach many live or online workshops.

The show is fresh, friendly and colorful. We perform as a duo or in bigger ensembles, and usually with dance. We have published 5 albums since 2012, and more are on the way.

Testimonials

“It is a joy for me to see that the work I do bears fruit. Because the idea behind this is not for it to remain atored and catalogued in the sound archive, as it is, but for it to come alive again in young voices. In all the reinterpretations you do, it is clear that you treat the repertoire with respect and love. that is very important. beyond the beautiful voice and the musicality of the accompaniment, treating each song with care, respect, and taste means a lot. congratulations!”
