Cantadme Galanica: “Traditional Spoken-Word Sephardic Music”

Traditional Spoken-Word Sephardic Music

A distinctly versatile Project depending on its musical formation:

As a duet or trio, it fits within the early and world music genres.

As a sextet, it ventures into a fusion of jazz and modern languages.

The projects is Ariana Barrabés’s personal creation and is designed to work with traditional spoken-word Judeo-Spanish melodies in order to highlight the importance of the female figure within them. The Galana represents all of the women who, hidden from the public eye, passed these songs down from generation to generation.

Moreover, the joining of traditional music with jazz lead to the creation of the third album entitled Cantadme galanica: La magia en la voz de la mujer sefardí.
